1971 to 1972: Tyrrell
004 was built for Jackie Stewart and was completed by the Tyrrell Racing
Organisation in October of 1971. 004
was a works car through the 1972 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Season, and then sold to Alex Blignaut of South Africa.
1972
to 1977: Alex Blignaut
of South Africa purchased Tyrrell 004 from the Tyrrell Racing
Organisation for use by Eddie Keizan in the 1973 and 1974 South African
National Formula 1 Championship as well as the 1973 and 1974 FIA Formula
One South African Grands Prix. 004 was sold by Mr. Blignaut in 1977 to Stephen Griswold of
Berkeley, California, USA.
1977 to 1978: Stephen
Griswold of Berkeley, California, USA, purchased Tyrrell 004 from Alex
Blignaut in 1977. Mr.
Griswold retained 004 until March 1, 1978, when it was sold to Robert D.
Sutherland of Englewood, Colorado, USA.
1978 to 2000: Robert D.
Sutherland of Englewood, Colorado, USA purchased Tyrrell 004 from
Stephen Griswold on March 1, 1978. Mr. Sutherland used 004 in select historic racing events until
his death on November 13, 1999. 004
was subsequently consigned by Herman R. Sutherland, Trustee for The
Robert D. Sutherland Trust, to Christie's International Motor Cars for
auction at Pebble Beach, California, USA, on August 20, 2000, where it
was purchased by John B. Dimmer of Tacoma, Washington, USA.
2000 to Present:
John B.
Dimmer of Tacoma, Washington, USA, purchased Tyrrell 004 at the
Christie's International Motor Cars for Auction at Pebble Beach,
California, USA on August 20, 2000.
COMPETITION HISTORY -
1971: Construction of Tyrrell 004
was completed in October of 1971. 004
was introduced to the public later that month as the Tyrrell-Ford
Constructor's Championship car at the Earls Court London Motor Show in
England.
1972: In January of 1972, Tyrrell
004 was sent to Kyalami in South Africa for testing. Jackie Stewart set an unofficial track record of 1:16.5
during these tests.

time of 7:28.5. Cevert
qualified his primary car, Tyrrell 002, on Friday, but subsequently
inflicted heavy damage when he crashed at Platzgarten before the end of
the session. Three corners
and the monocoque of 002 were damaged. Wishing to retain the favorable time set in 002, the chassis was
stripped down and the tub was straightened. The suspension pieces and engine from 004 were fitted to the tub
of 002. Francois Cevert
qualified 002 for the German Grand Prix in 5th position with
a qualifying time of 7:12.2. Francois
Cevert finished 10th in the race in the hybrid 002/004.
